(From Our Eueclal OorreSDonflent.t ■ Masterton, December'l7, ■■ The Masterton Cycling Club is'.holdin» a sports meeting on the Park Oval this evening, as a Christmas benefit to the patients in tho local hospital. A number of tho larger shearing sheds iii this district have "cut out." The clip, generally speaking, is of good ouality, thought somewhat on the light side. Twenty butchers,are at present.engaged at the Waingawa freezing works, and all hands are kept, very busy.-.The.oual-ity of the -mutton and beef handled at the local- works this year is of a high,standard, and compares more than favourably with that of last ssason.
Tenders have been received by the Mastcrton Fire Board for a motor engine for the- local fire service. These will bo dealt 'with at a : meeting of the Board on Thursday next.
A man named P. Brosnahan cut his hand severely. while engaged l in- shearing at Hoinebush yesterday. He received medical attention, and is reported to be progressing satisfactorily. Tho two Masterton Egg Circles are to bo represented at a conference of Circles that, js to be held at ths. Lower Hutt .on, December 27. Mt. W.'M."Boddingtdn'Yrill represent the Masterton Circle.
.The entries received.by the Masterton Amateur Athletic Club for the scorU meeting on Boxing Day constitute a record. The total number' is .200, rem-esent-ing no fewer- than seventy-one . competitors:- The l meeting-'promise's to'be tho most successful in the' history, of. the club.

Tho. annual prize-giving in connection with Hiss' Hampton's -school took plaeo last evening, when there was a larwi gathering of parents and friends. At t'ua conclusion of-the function -tho Rev. ■ H. Watson, on behalf;,-of the pupils, mado presentations to Miss. Hampton and Miss Vido. Hampton.
Adjutant Charles Dawkins, representing Commissioner Richards, of th? Salvation Army, is at present in this district" interviewing prominent residents, on behalf of the Booth Memorial Fimd.'
The .borough., engineer .reported' to-night in favour of laying out.^.municipal l'bowling green, tennis court, and croquetgrejn on the public park. The cost was,estimated at MO. The council decided to defer the. matter .until the estimates.are under consideration.
