ROSENEATH RATEPAYERS.

TRAMWAYS EXTENSION. ' A meeting of tho Roseneath Ratepayers' Association was held in.the local schoolhouse last evening. Mr. T. W.'Wardwiis in the chair, and about,2s members.of the association were present. Mr. -Ward proposed .that- Mrs,.Lowe .bo admitted'-a'member. Her late husband had been a member for. many years, and she wished to continue to be connected with tho association.'■ • A letter was read from tho Tramways Department of--.the City Council, .dated May 27, and proposing-a tramway extension to Rosciieath, via Majoribauks Street, Hawker Street, through the Town Belt. Tho total estimated expenditure for such an extension was ,£'i!),so7. It was decided that tho letter be received. The chairman pointed out the huge expense of such an extension, and added that he believed that when tho tramway management wrote tho letter they knew that the ratepayers would "turn it down," and he was glad that they had done eo. A further tramway extension schemo proposed a route from tho tunnel through Hataitai to Roseneath. This proposal, it was estimated, would only cost ,£17,000. The association had no official notice of such proposal. A deputation from Hataitai attended, and made it clear that the Roseneath Association would have their hearty support in furthering tho proposed extension to Roseivoatli via Hataitai. It was moved that the association, together with representatives '• from the Hataitai Association, form a deputation to the City Council for tho purpose r.f recommending to then the. Hataitai route extension, and. to urg-a them, to carry out this proposal. 7, v- .■-''.'
