TWO OFFICIALS RESIGN.
FRICTION ON HARBOUR BOARD STAFF. • (By Tcle^rapJi—Prcsii Association.) Auckland, December 17. The unexpected resignations of , the chief-assistant engineer (Mr. F, E. Powell) and the.temporary assistant-engineer (Mr. 11. J. M'Kay) last week, in a manner suggesting serious differences of opinion between tile Harbour Board's engineer and his. assistants respecting the method, of dealing with some of the engineering problems confronting the board, >came up this afternoon at the board's meeting. The board's engineer (Mr. Hamer), in a report on the subject, stated that, on November 17, Mr. Powell and Mr. M'Kay applied for,increases of salary. These were not granted, and, on December 6, they wrote a letter containing their resignations, and allegations as to the methods of doing certain work. Mr M'lCay's resignation had been accepted by the chairman prior to the board meeting, and Mr. Powell's resignation was accepted to-day. Tho engineer is to report on the whole subject. , , . '
