'■■ Tho Countess of Liverpool, who is m mourning, wore a very graceful gown of dull black silk, with a. magnificent necklace, tiara and earrings of diamonds, and a long spray of diamonds on her corsage. She carried a great bouquet of mauve and purple orchids, and wore some also on her gown. - The Hon. Mrs. Monck,: Lady Liverpool s aunt, was in ■.■black velvet, .with a whitelacs scarf and an antique necklace of amethysts. Lady Hamilton, mother of one of Lord Liverpool's aides-de-camp, was in black velvet.

Lady Plunket was in, a higli-raisted gown of pale grey charnieusc, one side of tho bodice draped, the other and part of the train lavishly trimmed with effective pale grey iridescent embroidery, and she wore a diamond tiara, necklace and carrings, lady Hall-Jones was in black silk, the decolletage composed of gold embroidery and cream silk net. Dr. Winifrede Bathgate .(Dunediti) wgs in black lace, with a necklace of garnets. Mrs. C. Wray Palliser wore black, covered with handsome alternate panels of black and white lace. Miss Mary Mackenzie, white .satin, th* skirt draped at one side with a great bow of rosebuds. Mrs. Guy Scholeheld, very pale pink. Mrs. Ilobson (Wellington;, primrose niiion, with an overdress of cream silk lace. Mrs. Parkinson, pale grey brocaded crepe, the bodice draped with white lace and bauds of violet and mauve. Lady Stout, mauve brocade presentation gown, trimmed with largo true lovers' knots of deeper mauva velvet, and Maltese lace, Miss Janet Stout, white satin trimmed with white niched chiffon and' sprays of lily of the valley. Lady. Miils, black charmeuse, the bodice em-. bossed with grapes in dull gold. Jlibs Geraldine Mills, vei'y pale mauve ninon, trimmed with simple design in mauve iridescent beads.
