CHRONOMETER RATING' NOTICE. Hector . Observatory, , Wellington.—The position of the Heater Observatory is as follows:— , Latitude, 41deg. 17min. 3.76500. South. Longitude, 11 hours 39min. 4.275ec. East ~of Greenwich. Height, above 1909 mean sea level. 418 feet; Ohronoriieter Rating Notice—At. 1 p.in. to-day a galvanometer signal . for rating chronometers will be sent from the Observatory to tho Public Telegraph Office and to the Dominion Musoviin. The needle will move, at 1 p.m. exactly of New .Zealand standard mean time, when a chronometer set to Greenwich, mean time should show 13 hours 30min. Any difference wUI be the error of the chronometer on Greenwich, rbeari time. At 9 p.m. oorreot. time will also be signalled- from the Observatory by means of electric lights. A green light will be switched on at about 8.45 p.m.., a rod one at about 8.55 p.iu., and a white ono at about 8.59 .p.m., and all lights will be Switched off at 9 p.m. exactly, of New.Zea> land standard mean time. . The preparatory switching on of tho. lights must be considered as only approximately correct, and must not be used for rating chronometers. , The correot time for rating will be given by switching off tho lights Biraultanooußly at 9 p.m. 0.
