Opie. who was for some tame engineer to the Wairarapa South County Council, and who resigned to take up a position with tho County Council in the Pongaroa district, has tendered his resignation to that body in order to take up a similar position in tho South Island. , A local bowling rink, having challenged, tho Masterton holders of the Wairarapa championship medals, went to Masterton tho other evening and endeavoured to regain them. Tho holders, however, just managed to retain them by the narrow margin of 1G points to 15. OTAKI. At the monthly meeting of the Horowhenua County Council, on Saturday, correspondence was read and dealt with as follows:—Prom the Valuer-General, stating that it would not be possible to complete the valuation of the county . for some months. . Tokomaru and Wirokino ridings would be completed in time for. the rating year, 1913-14. From Wailn Borou?h Council, enclosing a resolution passed by it with reference to compelling workers to sign a declaration affirming his or her loyalty to tho King and Union Jack, and asking for a similar resolution to be passed,—No action taken. Newman, asking permission to cut fescue at Koputorpa.-Ee-ouest agreed to. From the Hutt County Council regretting that they were unable to sharo the cost of the maintenance of the Waikanae-Reikiorangi Road. From the Railway Department, refusing a level crossing at To Horo, but stating that local bodies would bo allowed to erect an overhead bridge, if they so desired at a cost of ,£650.-No action token. From the Railway Department, writing in a similar strain to a proposed suhway at Levin.-Rcceived. From JJ. J. Craig, offering to buy. the straker.-Offer refused. . From the Railway Department, complaining of the Waikawa water-race damaging the line by overflowing,, and making a suggestion to obviate tiio trouble on future occasions.—Received. From J. G. Poynter asking that the water-races on his property be attended to.— Request granted, from Otaki Town Board, asking for adjustment of affairs. —Hold over. In response to a letter from Messrs. Young and Tripe, it w;as decided that the council would not accept any responsibility in connection with the Levin water-races. Tho council decided to elect a deputation to wait upon the Prime Minister, and ask him to do something to prevent encroachment by the Waikanae River. It was agreed to allow the Manawatu Council the stonecrusher at" 10s. per day.
