HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The final meeting for the current year of tho Hutt Borough Council was held last evening, and was attended by tho Mayor (Sir. E. P. Bunny) and Councillors Hobbs, Clendon, Roots, Bail, Kempthorne, and Dawson. Mr. J. A. M'Dougall gave notice of his intention to instal gas in his new premise's on Bellevue Road, and asked that tho pipe be put in to the side line of the road Ixtfore the tarring of the footpath was commenced.—Agreed to. Tho Treasury advised that tho resolutions making special rates for tho loans for the reservoir.and drainage were gazetted.—Received. Mr. Gwilliom wa6 granted leave of absence as from February 14 to 22, in order to attend the military training camp. Mr. G. H. Scales wrote accepting the council's appointment to act as negotiator with Professor von Zedlitz regarding the reservoir. Mr. J. Babington, proprietor of . tho Crown Pictures, was.granted a renewal of his license, tinder the usual conditions.. A further application from Mr. Babington to show suitable pictures on Christmas Day was refused. It was decided to instruct the engineer to proceed with tho construction of a ramp leading to the eastern approach of the new pipe bridge, provided that the cost did not exceed .£25. A ratepayer was granted financial assistance to carry out drainage' to his premises.. • Mr. C. Ormerod was appointed temporary ranger during tho absence on holiday 'of the permanent ranger (Mr. A. Mills). The engineer reported good progress with eastern drainage, section 5- About 8 chains had boon laid to date, at a total cost of .£l4B. Excellent progress was also being made with the tarring and sanding of footpaths. One connection had been made with the.'gas mains, and two with tho.water main's. -Six hundred and ninety-fivo permits had. been. issued to date under the .drainage and sanitary bylaws.

Mr. Savage was the successful tenderer for the -supply of dog collars, at prices ranging from Is. 6d. to 9s. per dozen, according to size. x The council then went into committeo' to discuss reports in regard to the licences of vehicles in tho borough, and the drivers of same. . •
