MEETING OF WELLINGTON CENTRE.
The monthly meeting. of tho Wellington Centre of the New Zealand.Amateur Athletic. Association was held last night. Mr. R. AV. M'Villy, president, was 111 the chair, and there wero also present: Messrs. J.. B. Holt, W. Hardlmm,. C. Young, A. T. Duncan, E. A. Dawson, D. Leslie, G. Scott, A. C. Kitto, L. Cooke, and H. W. Thompson. Tho Petono Junior Club was granted permission to hold an evening meeting on January 10. Tlic events will ho 120 yards and 880 yards races. Mr. F. G. Hall-Jones, secretary of the. New Zealand University . .Tournament, Committee, wrote. protcsting.,thatthe. Basin Reserve had not been allocated .to Victoria College for,tli9 inter-Colleeo tournament. Tho chairman explained that ho had pressed the claims of Victoria College to tho Et\ster Monday date when discussing .tho matter of dates .with .the Cricket Association, but tho Cricket Association had had their arrangements somuch upset that thoy would _ probably have.difficulty in arranging their fixtures. He had.bscn assm-ed that jf.it could ba arranged the association would .be very glad to allow Victoria College to havo' the ground. Nothing could be decided at oiice, but he would have another confer-ence-..with, tho association very shortly. In any cas2, (; there w.ould'bo no difficulty about the-.tournament being held on Newtown Park. Application was made to tho Reserves Committee for the right to hold sports on tho Basin Reserve on January 18,. Febru-, ary 1. and 15, and March 8. It wis decided to advise the Wellington Amateur Athletic Club that thoy could have the January 18 date on the Basin Reserve. Committees and officials were appointed and arrangements made generally'for the Wellington Provincial Championships to bo held on Saturday, February 1. The centre decided to run the New Zealand Championships in Wellington about February 15 or 22. The. proposals for the establishment of a Sports Federation, one of the objects of which will bo to provide suitable quarters for all sports bodies in. Wellington were considered. The chairman reported that suitable premises had been offered at a satisfactory rental, and thero was' every prospect of tho scheme being satisfactorily launched. The' promises wero a club building, tho club had already a charter, and the sports members'would bo entitled to all the privileges. All the sports bodies would ba required to pay would be £2 2s. per year, nnd to' guarantee 75 club members. - He, thought there should be no difficulty, about, this. The scheme met with general a'irorbval, and it 'was decided that tho Wellington Centre of. the N.Z.A.A.A. should, co-operate in the movement. '' ■ .
