MANAWATU A. & P. SOCIETY

TROPHIES FOB SHIRE HORSES. At the last meeting of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association general correspondence was dealt frith and accounts totalling .£3132 ss. 2d., including show prize moneys, show accounts, and sundries, were passed for payment. Messrs. Ellis Bros., the well-known breeders of bulls, have been interesting themselves in the matter of trophies In the draught horse section, witfi the result that they were able to notify the association to the effect that tha Shire Horse Society of Great Britain and Ireland will donate two of their silver med-. als for the best Shire, entirs and mare respectively. It is also understood that the' Clydesdale Society is sending out gold medals for similar prizes ■nu Clydesdale classes. ' Messrs. Ellis" Bros, were tendered a hearty vote of thanks and the medals were accepted with the association's thanks. A resolution w.as carried thanking the members of the Holiday Association for closing, and regretting the action of one firm which declined to close at all on fne second day, though asked to do so by the Holiday Association; his Worship the Mayor, and the A. and P. Association. In view of the fact that the space at the IDI2 winter show was inadequate, the committee has again had to face the question of providing for more space. It was decided to extend the lately erected produce hall some 50 feet, ana cover in the space between that building and the machinery hall, doing away with tho.wall of the latter. This will provide a commodious exhibition hall and vastly increase the available space. The hitherto bald-looking front of the machinery hall will now be hidden by a more pretentiouslooking building,'and the main entrance to the grounds will be installed in a spacious porch. It may be added that nearly the whole of the machinery hall as it now stands is booked for the big event in June. The improvements.outlined abova will, it i« understood, involve, as outlay U, ro.Mli fflSSfa.. .
