.CHRISTMAS DAY TRAMS,

Sir,—lt is just about tiraa tho public of Wellington showed some consideration for our tramway men. Theso men are expected to work thirteen days out of every fourteen; and get only a few days' holiday each year. Yet our : selfish community want to keep those men going on Christmas Day—a day which they all like to have at homo. ' Now, for instance, put some of thesa individuals in the tramway men's place, and they would be the very first to make a song about it; yet they want these men to work like machines day in'and day out, and have no rest. In.past years' these men held their annual picnic on this particular day, and this year they are to be deprived of the only bit of enjoyment they get. The publio may think that it is an easy job, but let them travel in and out" of a car for eight, perhaps ten,, hours or longer, and they would soon get full' up of ;it. Now lot all t"he.citizens join in and give these men a holiday on this particular day; I am sure a little bit of exercise would not do them any harm, nor would a little rest;do the tramway-men likewise,' considering they, will have/ ■■■'to*-' -work' long/.' hours on Boxing Day. Thanking y_ou for ' the space, and again hoping the publio will show their ■ appreciation by allowing these men to have one day- free a year,—l am, etc., ONEOFMANXUN|ELFISH December 11, 1912.
