COLLEGE CRICKET.
AT WANGANUI. EASY WI:V FOR HOME TEAM. (Dy Toloirraph.—fjpoclal Correspondent,) Wanuanui, December 13. Tho annual mulch between the Wanganui and Wellington Colleges was conimcuc.Hl (in tlio Wiiugunui .School's ground on Tliuralny, and wna completed tliis afternoon. At tlip end of tho first (Joy's play, Wnnganni,' who had u lead on the first innings o( rj, hud los'L two wickcls (or 120 when stumps were drawn, liurnau and Salmond continued llieir innings yesterday forenoon on a wicliot which played fair. Tho outfield was in fiibt going order, find runs come steadily, but w'Jicn 37 hud been added to the over-night Kcore Kalinond retired, stumped, lie- had ployed a very fine innings, and ho received an ovation on retiring. From this on runs caino slowly, while wickets fell, Gotz and Wilde being sent to tho right about without scoring. Bernau, who hud been butting very slowly, seemed uncomfortable to tho elow bulls from tho diminutive Morton, and in going for ward to him, Stainton miswd a good chance of removing the bails. Afterwards, however, he succumbed to a good ball from the-same l>6wler. Bcrnau'e C 2, although taking a long while to mount up, was a finely-contributed total', and he was grectod with a round of applause. Crosss, with a good drive, sent the second century up, amidst applause. This l«atsnian. was tho only ono of tho remaining four to make- a stand, the innings closing for the good score of 219. Tho Morton brothers and Beard shared the wickets, taking three apiece. T.his left Wellington to get 212 runs to avert defeat. ■ Staples and Joptin wero tho opening pair, facing tho bowling of Bernau and Bennett, whoso first overa were maidens,Iho batsmon being unenterprising. Bernau's second over changed the situation, however, Staples being clean bowled. Hindmarsh was next, but after adding a single to tho score, ho was beaten by a "clinker" from Bennett. The bowling nt this stage was very deadly, and as a-re-sult runs came but slowly. Bernau was swerving right across, while Bennett got any amount of work on each delivery, and, moreover, kept a good length. A couple of overa later Joplin poked one from Bennett up to Dalgety at extra cover. At this stage, with three wickets down for 12, tho luncheon adjournment was taken. On tho resumption Bramwell and Stainton went in, but .tho former placed one into Bennett's ever-ready hands at cover before he had scored. A change of bowling was made to give the opening pair a change, Marshall and Dalgety going on. Morton major, was well caught by Brown at first man off Marshall, and Mathewson drove one of Dalgety's to Knight. The wicketa were now falling quickly, and, with six down.for 30, Wellington's chances of winning were very remote. Connie, Briscoe,- Beard, and Morton II were given quick dispatch, and the innings closed for the small total. of 44. Stainton was , still unbeaten with a pluckily compiled 22 (including a nice shot for five). Wanganui thus won by the substantial margin of 108 runs. Wanganul.—First Innings. Bernan, o. and b.
