' • HEAVY LOSS OF REVENUE. (Rec. December 14, 0.15 a.m.) Mclbourno, December 13. The House is considering the Bills for the repeal of the sugar excise and bounty. Power is retained to- put the Bills into cffect upon a proclamation. ■ Mr. Tudor, Minister for Trade and Customs, isplained that the Bills would be proclaimed as soon, as Now South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland had passed legislation enacting the recommendations of the Sugar Commission. It estimated that tho loss of revenue through the. repeal, will be ,£200,000 per annum, and in a few years this will increase to £250,000. The import duty will Etill remain in force.

Tho Government and all parties involved wero represented by counsel. The commissioners descended the mine under expert guidance and inspected tho workings. Evidences were seen everywhere of destruction, desolation, and ravages by the firo.
A NEW AMENDMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, December 12. In Committee on the Trade Union. Bill the House of Commons adopted an amendment by Sir Isaac Rufus, AttorneyGeneral, providing that where a union adopted political objects a member might notify his refusal to contribute to a political fund and obtain an exemption. The Opposition stigmatised the amendment as a breach of faith.
(From Orr Succial OorresDondent.) On Thursday afternoon a boy named Lanee Churcliwood, wliose parents reside in Petone, met with a painful accident. Tho boy was helping himself to some flowers in a garden on the Hutt Road when the lady of the house detected him. He rushed away, but was caught in a barbed wire'fence, and had the cnlf of ono leg badly cut. It was necessaiy to put eleven, stitches in tlio wound. Mr. J. M. Martin, of Petone. whilst cycling and lending a horse, had his shoulder dislocated. The animal plunged, and threw Mr. Martin on to the kerbing, rendering him unconscious. By way of assisting Fireman "Fleet, who mot with a serious accident during the sports at Petone on Labour Day, a benefit entertainment was accorded him in (lie Lyccum Theatre, Petone, last night. There was an excellent attendance, and it is expected the proceeds will realise about .£ls. A sale of work, held at the Church of Christ, Potono, which was opened on Thursday, concluded last night. There was a fair attendance, and business was brislt, The proceeds, which are in aid ot tho building £u&d, reaUwxl & satisfactory amount. .— ... _ .
