CIVIC AFFAIRS.
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL.. ' The fortnightly meeting ,-,of the City Council was held'last night. There were present: The Mayor (Mr. D. M'Lareu), Councillors ]£. Fletcher; G. Shirtcliffe, J. E. Fitzgerald, A. H. Hindniarsh, It: A. Cameron, J. Fuller, B. Tregear, W. H. P. Barber, L. M'Kenzie, J. Godber, ,A. K. Atkinson, J. Trevor, G. Frost, F. Cohen, and J. Smith. . i ■: ■'■■'
The following recommendation from tho Tramways Board was adopted:—"That tho pay of tho two tramway employees be made up to full for tho time they were absent from work, owing to accidents sustained whilst on duty." On the recommendation of tho Reserves Committee the council agreed: "That having approved the proposal of Mr. C. G. Wilson, that a 'sports carnival be held in Wellington, on similar lines to the Dunedin garden fete, tho proceeds being devoted to the improvements of the sports grounds of the city, a public meeting be called by , the Mayor as loon as possible, to consider the same." The report was adopted of the Finance ■Committee to the effect: "That in conlection with the proposed Ngaio-Wades-'own Bridge, the sub-committee reconiaend that a conference between the Ons'ow Borough Council's sub-committeo and jhis council's committee, with the City Engineer, be arranged, to discuss the proposal." The following recommendations of the Reserves Committee were rejected:—
"That the application of Mrs. MTilly, on behalf of the Kelburne Ladies' Croquet Club, for a lease of portion of Section 48, Town Belt, for croquet grounds be granted, subject to tho city valuer fixing the rental, the city solicitor drawing the lease in terms of the Act, and the City Engineer approving the site, formation, and improvements to be erected," "That the application of the Kelburne Bowling Club, Ltd., for a lease of a por* tion of Section 48, Town Belt, for the formation of a bowling green, bo granted, subject to the city valuer filing the rent?\, the city solicitor drawing the lease Is terms of the Act/andthe City Engineer approving the site, .formation, and improvements to bo erected."
