SEA LORD RETIRES.

Mr. Winston Churchill, first Lord of (ho Admiralty, was sharply questioned in tho House of Commons as to the reason for Sir Francis Bridgeman's retirement from his position as First Sea Lord. Air. Churchill admitted that he had suggested tho resignation. Tire statement that tho Sea Lords had threatened more than onco to resign last month was, ho said, untrue. (Reo. December 13, 0.15 a.m.) ' London, December 12. When Mr. Churchill, First Lord of the Admiralty, was heckled over Sir Francis Bridgemau's retirement, he stated that tho only causo was ill-health, and that no difference of policy had led to a disagreement. Admiral Lord Charles Boresford, M.P. for Portsmouth asked: "Did the proposition emanate from Sir Francis Bridgeman ?" Mr. Churchill: "Are you, speaking on' Sir Francis Bridgcman's behalf?" Lord Charles Beresford: "No, no! But many Sea Lords have retired recently." Mr. Churchill: "Since the noble Lord presses it, the proposal emanated from me." (Loud Opposition cheers.) The "Daily News" say 3 it is notorious that Sir Francis Bridgeman retired aftor a serious dispute with Mr. Churchill. Sir Francis Bridgeman wanted higher pay for bluejackets in order to the necessary recruits.
