GERMAN CRUISER.

SHIP CORMORAN IN PORT. The Email Gorman cruiser, made hel appearance at Wellington, yesterday morning, and came to an anchorage about 9.20 a.m. She was the Cormoran, & sloop of IG3O tons, under the command of Captain Ebert. . , S'no is a tiny boat of tho old-fashioned type, with yards on thb foremast. She is painted grey—tho same colour as a British mnn-o'-war. Her armament consists of eight 4.lin. and five 1-pounder guns, seven maxim guns, and two torpedo tubes. She is 24Gft. long, 33.6 ft. beam, and 15ft. deep. Her engines aw (nominally) of 2930 horse-power, and she can, if "spurted," develop a speed of 16 knots'i Her complement \s 165. The German visitor attracted much attention on ,-tho water-front yesterday, and her sailors appeared to have a good time ashore.

When the Cormoran came to an anchor yesterday morning, H.M.S. Cambrian fired a salute of 21 guns, the battery at Pipitea Point honoured the visitor in a like manner.

Later in the morning tho German Consul (Mr. E. Focko) paid an official visit to tho warship, and a salute was accorded him a 9 he left for shore shortly before noon.

Captain Elert came ushore daring the afternoon aud paid official visits to the Administrator (Sir Robert- Stout), the Prime Minister (Hon. W. P. llassey), and the Officer Commanding the New Zealand Defence Forces (General Godley) t and others.

Arrangements have been made for officials of --ho Harbour Board and City Council as well as General Godley to visit tho Cormoran this morning. _ The cruiser will remain at Wellington until Friday, December 20, on which day she will proceed to Auckland, where sho is due on December 23. . On January 2 the Cormoran will leave tho northern port for Samoa.
