BETTER OR WORSE?

The first of a series of debates was held in St. Patrick's Hall last evening, between tho Hibernian Society and the Wellington Catholic Club, the subject being "Is the World Growing a Better or a Worse Place to Live In?" Tho club, which supported the optimistic side, was represented by Messrs. M. O'Kane (leaderf, J. O'Sullivan, and G. LVs while the Hibernians, who were represented by Messrs. J. J. Burke (leader), H. M'Keowen, and J. W. O'Callaglmn, upheld the other view. The arguments adduced by both sides were interesting, and the debate was greatly appreciated by the large gathering present. Mr. J. M'Gowan, who presided, declared the debate a draw.
