. S.S. MOURA' BEING BUSTLED. Says the Dunedin "Star":—Tho Union Company's .Moura was in a bustling state of fuss and flurry on Tuesday morning at Port Chalmers. . She was berthed at. the George Street wharf. Her propellers were churning the water at full-speed velocity, B.teara crackled and spluttered in the process of testing the steam valves, and presently the whistle tooted and ,6hrieltcd and wailed. The vessel was. being tested by prospective, purchasers, and in connection therewith she proceeded outside the harbour limits to carry, out steaming and. speed tests, which averaged, about 15 knots an hour. Mr. A. Morrison, Lloyd's surveyor, supervised the trials on b?half of her prospective buyers, and Captain King of the Union Company was in command.

It Is understood that in. the event of her purchase the Moura will be employed in the French mail service, and has to bo delivered at Saigon.

A NEW ."STAE." ' Still another new vessel is bo rapidly approaching completion .. in the bui!ld«rs' yards, and one which no doubt will' play an important part' in the Australian and Now Zealand service of the Tyser Line, that a name has been decided on for her, saya the "Sydney Shipping. List." She is being built to the order of Messrs.. Jameß P.. Oorry and Company, and will bo known as the Star of Victoria, a name previously used by this 'firm arid carried by a vessel that was an undoubted favourite. The new Star of Victoria, although essentially designed for the cargo traffic, having special attention bestowed upon the requirements of the frozen meat'business, will be suited for the conveyance of immigrants slbo. It is anticipated that the new vessel will be in commission early next year.

MYItA FELL'S OHAKTBIt. The steamer Myra Fell, which has been under charter to the Union Company forsonio months past, engaged in carrying coals from Newcastle to Auckland, will be delivered over to her owner's representatives this month. She has been fixed to load wheat at Sydney or one of the southern ports for the United Kingdom, at the rate of 425. 6d., with the Mediterranean option of 455. ■ a ton.

The 'Myra Pell was built flvo years ago for the Commonwealth Line of steamers, and was engaged for some years running in the Australian coastal service, chiefly bstweu Port Piriu, Sydney, and Newcastle, after which Bhe was taken up on timecharters for the same business by the different inter-State steamship companies.

'•■■'; CLAN OGILVV FOR HOME. The steamer Clan Ogilvy, which entered upon a six-months' charter to the Adelaide S.S. Company, and for that time has been employed i'n the intor-State trade,is to come to New Zealand early next year and take the wool and general cargo berth for. London on account of Mr. G. 11. Scales', of Wellington. When the Clan Ogilvy came to Australia it was to fulfil a similar engagement, and was "coming .to Newcastle from New ..Zealand to replenish bunkers preparatory to leading wool ■■when an accident occurred in the engine-room. Repairs were at once put in hand, but when completed: it' was too late for her to take the Homo berth in "the- Dominion,', and -w the Australian'ohartor offered. It' wa-a accented. '

ANGLO-MEXICAN'S MOVEMENTS. . Anglo-Mexican, s.s„ under charter to the A. and A. Line, from New York, left Auckland for Wellington at 6.30 p.m. yesterday. She is due in port to-morrow.

■ The Union Company's Kauri was under the skcerings at Port Chalmers on Monday, having her masts removed for the purpose of making them more suitable for carrying coal derricks. When this steamer arrived hero a few months ago for the liiut time it was said then that she had the worst craw accommodation qf any vossel that had ever visited New Zealand waters. This defect is being remedied now the vessel is under overhaul. Formerly the sailors and firemen were domiciled under the forecastle hoad. Quarters for the firemen are now being fitted aft, under tho poop, and part of the vacated Quarters forward is being converted into a mess-room for the deck hands, who retain the use of the forecastle. The improvements will exceed what the regulations stipulate. The Westport Coal Oo.'s collier Canopus Is expected to go into dock at Lyttelton on December 27 for her annual overhaul. She will come out on December 30. The Scales Line steamer Clan Alpine is expected to arrive at Lyttelton about December 28 to load wool for London. Tho well-known barque Antuco, recentlysold to Norwegians, has been renamed Maco, and is' now bound to Santos from null, and the German barque Furst Bismarck has been renamed Belleville. Tho steamer Collington, 4030 tons, has been substituted to take the Lodorer's case oil loading berth at New York for New Zealand .ports. The barque Albert, 624 tons, has been chartered to bring down a cargo of lumber from Puget Sound to Napier. , It is reported that an offer has been made to charter the cable steamer. Silvertown, now at Auckland, to take wheat to the United Kingdom or Continent from Port Pirie. Captain Lidstone, an old and popular employee of tho Tyser Company, is to take charge of the now steamer Hawkes' Bay. The liner is to sail from London early in tho New Year. Captain Drowette has taken charge of the Waitemata. vice Captain Nicholson, who is in Wellington. '• Mr. Geoffrey Potts, late second engineer of the Ngatoro, has pa.sed his examination at Dunedin for a chief engineer's certificate. Messrs. Bannatyne and Co. advise that the Anchor Line's 3teamer Nikau leaves Wellington for Nelson, via French .Pass, at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve. The vessel will tako passengers for both places. The Shaw-Savill steamer Kumara, which is running under charter to the Now Zealand Shipping Co., left Melbourne for Sydney on December 11. The vessel is coming from Montreal, and is due here about January 4. The Kowhai 1 will take transhipments ex tho Inveric to Auckland to-day in place of the Kini. The latter vessel leaves here also with -transhipments . for -Now Ply--mouth on Saturday. ■ A Press Association message received from Auckland last evening stated that the Norwegian whalers Eagle and Hawke left Russell yesterday afternoon for Melbourne.
