MIRAMAR COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Miramar Borough Council was held last-evening, Councillor 801 l presiding. Councillors Telford, Grigg, Stone, and Smith wero also present. ...

The Sfcite Guaranteed Advances Office wrote regarding the council's loan of ■£15,001). The letter "stated that, owing to tho Department's inability to raise the money at the rate anticipated when' the loan was granted," it would be necessary to charge the council a higher rate than 4J- per "cent. Tho amount of the increased rate is at present uncertain, but the council would be informed as soon as possible what it would be like. Councillor Bell considered that the Gov-, ornmont had treated the council very unfairly. No private institution would do such a thing. The only thing that the council could do was to pay the extra interest. The' letter was subsequently referred to the Finance Committee.

According to a report submitted by the clerk, the extra' penny charged on the borough: tramway section had produced (for the year ended March 3, 1912) Mil 10s. 7d., on tho Miramar line, and ,£303 on the Seatoun line, making a total for the year of 10s. 7d. From April to November 10 the extra fare had brought .£IOO 17s. 2d. on the Miramar line, and .£147 Us. 2d. oh tho Seatoun line.

An application from the'Seatoun Amateur Athletic Glub for permission to uso the Seatoun Park for a sports' meeting on January 22 was granted. The council, however, decided to inform the club that it could'not grant tho right to charge for admission. The use of- one wicket on. the Miramar Park was granted to the Junior Cricket Association.

Five shillings was fixed a 9 the tax on house dogs and 2s. Gd. on sheep and cattle doss.

The council has written to the Harbour Ferries Company, asking them to submit an improved service for Seatoun and Karalta Bay. The council considers it useless to discuss subsidising the present inadequate service. ' , The next meeting of tho council is in be held on Tuesday, December 18. This will bo tho last meeting this year, and the council will meet again on January 3, 1913. When the accounts were being, passed for payment, Councillor Grigg raised objection to' the amount* due to tho City Council being paid. He considered that tlio council had not boon 1 treated fairly and properly I,y the r City Council. It was decided that as Mr. Grigg was n member of the Tramways Committee, tho grievances be discussed before that committee.

The, Acting-Mayor moved in tho above direction, and the motion was carried.
