HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLEGRAM. The Department 'of Agriculture, Industries and Cominerce, has received the toilownU oablegrram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, DiceiE'ber 7, reeardin? the closing of tho fifth series of colonial wool sales;.— lhe market closed very strong. There is pooa compstition. Indications are favourable for a continuance of the present prices, yivn hundred bales New Zealand wools are held over. Estimated value: Superior merino. Is. Id. to la. 3*d. per lb.: medium, lid. to is Id.; inferior, 9d. t-o 10Jn-: fine crossbrcds. Is. Id. to'ts. 3Jd.; mpdium» lid. to la. 1 lid.; coarse, to is. Id." PRIVATE REPORTS. Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd.. Wellington. have been advised by cable fvoni their London offne, under date Decomber 7, as fallows:—"Wool ?ales closed firm and active, with brisk competition. As compared with the closing rates of last series, good to super, scoured merino. 2£d. per rent, to 5 per higher: medium and inferior sorts, lb. ner cent, higher; for greasy merino combing, nrice 5 per cent, to 7J per cent, higher: short wools, per ennt. to 5 per cent, higher; for heavy, earthy, and %\njrty wool. 2£ per cent, to 5 per cent, higher; merino pieces, bellies, and locks, freasv, 7h per cent, higher: crossbred wools, fine, 5 per cent, higher, medium and coarse. 10 per cent, hieher; medium and coarse. 10 per cent, higher. The total net qnantitv available amounted to 100,Ef0 haleslCoo bales were sold to America, FO.DCO for Homn. cohsumotion. 47.000 to the Continent, and 2000 were carried forward. The Bank of New Zealand has received tw following cable advii-e from its London office, dated December 7' "The sales bave closed verv Arm, and the prosnects are good. There is an activo demand by all branches of the trade." Mossrs.' Murray, Boberts and Co. have received the following cablegram from their London fronds. Messrs. Sanderson. Murray and ' Co., "dated December 7:—"Sales havo closed firm. 2000 bales held over. Compared with highest point during the sales tho markit shows no change for scoured merino, faulty or inferior, or medium. Other descriptions of morino have declined a, sbnde, market being irregular. Compared with opening rates, crossbred.market sliows. no - material change." Tho New Zealand Loaii and Mercantile Affency Company, Ltd., and Reduced, hna received the following pablegram from its London houss, under date Decembor 7:— "The sales closed sttrong. . Ninety-flyc thousand boles of wool were .sold at the wool sales of which 47,000 ba.les were taken for the Continent and 1000 bales for- America: 2000 bales were held over. As compa-rcd with last sales' closing, are higher a.bout 5 per cent, to 7i per cent, for greasy merino medium, coarse scoured crossbred, greasy inferior, and medium scoured crossbred."
