Philps did not appear on the tablet.—Hesolved to inform Mr. Taylor that every endeavour- had been made to secure all names of deceased persons interred uuder the bridge approach site'. , , 'In reply,to;a .cbmplaint,.about the, ; pres-, sure of gas, the Petone'Borough Council admitted that on November 9 the quality .of gas was. bad. This, had been due to an accident, but the gas generally .was of a good quality, and pressure, and if the pressure at Hutt had been poor there must be somo defect in reticulation. Tests had been made and the pressure maintained was 27 tenths. At an early date it was proposed, to instal. new purihers, and also to engage a gas manager.—llesolved . (on the motion of the Mayor) to reply stating that it was assumed that Petone would go on with these Improvements as soon as possible, otherwise the matter . would be pursued further. Mr, H. Baldwin complained that the councils stoue-crusher was lying half covered with metal ou the river bed. Complainant stated that if he were a member of the council the person who looked after the crusher would be dismissed. The Works Committee, in. a report, recommended that the elevator, which was the only part at all damaged, should be. removed until such time as it w;as required. This was agreed to. The engineer remarked tliaf it was dangerous to move the crusher, as well as expensive. The engineer was instructed to order all timber required for casing at the reservoir from Hort, 'tfdy,-'an<l Co., Petone. The AVorks Committee made the following recommendations That' a ramp be constructed on the northern side of the new pipe bridge (eastern approach), and that no footpath be provided.—lt was decided to hold thd matter over until the residents in the vicinity of the bridge had been communicated with; that a search of the title of the subdivision of the Native block be made in order to ascertain the position as effecting the pro- • posed road to the sanitary dc-pot.—Agreed to. That Mr. Scales be employed to negotiate with Professor Von Zedlitz as to the amount to be paid him for tlie use of any land required for storage purposes during the construction of the additions to the reservoir.—Agreed to. The engineer reported that progress on Section 5 oi the eastern drainages had been slow, owing to bad weather. During the heavy rain on the 28th til. , timo, an inspection of the flooded portion of Victoria Street, Alicetoivn, had been made and it had been discovered that most of tlie water had come from the AVestland Timber Company's yard. The present drain from-this yard was not large enough, and a nine-inch drain was ■ recommended. The cost would be about £75. Tlie cost of making a footpath at Mr. Lynch's would be aliout Tlie tarring of umlergear at the main bridge had been completed at a total cost of -£G3. 13s. Sd. The last storm had brought a good deal of debris to the catchment liars of Belmont, and Fitzherbert creeks, but ihese were at present being cleared up. One connection had been made with the gas mains, and three with the water mains; HBl permits had bpen issued to date under the drainage and sanitary bylaws. v The report was adopted, and the recommendations agreed to. .
