n Admiral Sir G. King-Hall (commanding tho Australasian Squadron) left Lyttclton for Wellington, by H.M.S. Cambrian last evening. Tho warship is due in -port about 8 a.m. to-day.
Five members of the Cabinet were a# Lawrence, Otago, last night, tire occasion being a farewell banquet to tie Hon. J. Allen on the eve of Iris departure for England. Tho other /Ministers present were the Hon. AV. I'. Massey (Prime Minister), the Hon. E. H. Rhodes, the Hon. W. Fraser, and the Hon. Dr. Pomare. The Hon. F. M. B. Fisher is to be in Wellington to-day, and the Hon. ■W. Fraser is expected to-morrow. The Prime Minister will probably arrive about Wednesday, and most of the Ministers will assemble in Wellington then or scon afterwards. Tho Hon. A. L. Herdman ia at Auckland, and the othei Ministers ara in Wellington.
Tho Eight Rev. Dr. Cieary, Eoman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, is on a, short visit to Wellington.
Tho Hon. F. M. B. Fisher will return to Wellington by the ferry steamer from Lyttelton this morning.
Tho Hon. W. Fraser, who was at Lawronco last night, ia expected to ba back in Wellington on Sunday morning. The death occurred on Tuesday last of Mr. Charles Hanghey, of Christchurch, one of tho early Canterbury settlers. The deceased, who was bom in Lergen, County Down, Ireland, camo to New Zealand fifty years ago, and was one of those employed in the formation of the old West Coast Koad. Subseqnently he took up dairy farming near Christchurch. Mr. Campion, London manager of the Australian Bank of Commerce, hag been appointed London manager of the Commonwealth State Bank, which opens at Nos. 3fi and 38 New Broad Street, early in January.—Pres3 Association.
Mr. F. J. Kirby, the associate editor o£ tho "New Zealand Times," who is severing his connection with that paper to take over (with Mr. H. O. Captain E. W. Tabor (England), honorary foreign secretary to the National Fire Brigade Union, is on a visit to Wellington, and contemplates making a long stay in. the Dominion.
The Missions to Seamen Institute will tender his Excellency Admiral Sir Gtorga King-Hall a reception, on Monday afternoon.
Mr. Gravestock, representing Messrs. J. and N. Tait with the Madame Kirkbr Lunn Concert Company, leaves for Sydney on Friday nest, en route for Sonth Africa, where he is to supervise the tour of the brilliant entertainer Miss Margaret Cooper, for the Tait management. Mr. Edward Newman, M.P. (Kangitikei) is in Wellington on business connected with his constituency.
