9 » (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Pahiatua, December 5. The Pahiatua Musical and Elocutionary Competitions, extending over three days, commenced yesterday, and were largely attended. The judges are: Elocution, Mr. T. L. Buick, Wellington; music, Mr. H. G. Gunther, Palmerston North. Results:— Recitation.—Girls under 12: Janet Prosser (Masterton), 1; Elsie Robertson (Palmerston North), 2. Boys under 12: James Walsh (Pahiatua), 1; Hugh Taylor (Pabiatua), 2. Girls under 16: Elsie Robertson, 1; Prances O'Meara (Pahiatua), 2. Boys under 16: Cecil Brown (Mangatainoka), 1; Dan Twomey (Pahiatua), 2. Gentlemen: W. H. Hocking (Falmerston North), 1; C. E. Madden (Pahiatua), 2. Ladies: Miss Julie O'Meara jPahiatua), 1; Miss E. A. Knight (Eketakuna) and Miss B. Johnson (Masterton), equal, 2. Ladies (humorous): Julie O'Meara, 1; Elsie Robertson, 2.
