NEW USE FOR SKIM-MILK.
: " ; AN .':EPFICJENT : FERTILISER. ..,/; ,-, A,new.and;profitable use.is said to.have ■been 'discovered for.'skini- milk.:-It has, • ..been found that by mixing.-.the milk- with phosphate of lime a most efficient phosphate is produced. The phosphate of lime ;i?;,placed in a hollow .heap -on !thb floor, the .waste, milk .is run into the Hollow, and' : a handful of .yeast is added. - liv-, course of time the .whole;is turned and' containing about 72,30 ,-per. cent of ,phosrihprtar. : After it has -been'dried,and is ; , ■broken, up it. is a most efficient fertiliser, containing-about: 72,30 per, cent of phosphate and a little more than 1 per cent ■of nitrogen, Unlfke the manufacture of ■ most phosphates, this process, it is stated, is not attended by any of the .'disagreeable smells-and other nuisances so. closewith the-;ordinary?.fertiliser 'factory. ' , ; ':';MANAQINa;V\.,&:P. SHOWS. --';.. SOME : :SOUND ADVICE. ' Soino remarks made at a meeting of the committee of the Eginont-A. and P, Association last'week in regard to the .management of-future shows could,-with' .advantage;'be digested by,the committees of A. and P: shows generally. Mr. Mills, commenting on the rooin for still further ; improving, the .Haivera gathering, said this-could only be brought' about by special effort on the part'of the General Committee, in working up the show. A show was not going to bo run' by itself, ■ ..and it would .necessarily, taker a' lot.of, . running.. They should.get on their cominittee, representatives ,of every section in the show;; each'a;-man who was mainly iiiterestediin.his particular branch. In ,this connection it would be to have: young me*n, if "possible,' arid men who could be relied upon to.work np the department they were, interested in, "whether horses, sheep, or, cattle. There was. 'no, doubt that 'a number of the .members were trying to get entries to the • best of their ability,*' but in'..many cases aviruipher were labouring under a handicap. It was no use of. a "horsey." ;man to talk to a "sheep" niau for entries, or vice versa, and' the same "thing ,'applied .right'through ,the various classes. He was sure it would he.possible to elect a committee on the lines he had' indicated. -Mr. R. H. Nolan, 6peaking with reference to some suggestions, said he thought one of the errors of theHawera and other A. and P. Associations, was the annual appointment of president. He knew..from experience that it took a man all the first 1 year of his office to get into the work, and usually just as 'he was about becoming familiar with' it, another appointment was made. • His experience, too, was that the executive was really the president, and therefore that, office should be, hel-dby the same person-.for,-af least two years. He supported ■Mr. Mills's suggestion with reference to -the appointment of committeemen interested in any one particular clnss. It would-be a good thing'if this could bo carried out. .
