MID-WEEK CRICKET.

« NOTES & SCORES. RATHER A BOWLER'S DAY. The first round of the mid-week competitions was concluded on Wednesday afternoon. Tho ground' was heavy after the rain of Tuesday. Last year's champions (Union C.C.) had rather an easy win over Vivian, defeating them by an innings and 07 runs. A number of the Vivian team did not put in an appearance. Crouch (Rivals) fielding as substitute for Union, mode a fine catch at point, having to throw himself at the ball and just taking it a few inches from tho ground. Artillery have started well. Thoy defeated Oriental, who batted two men short in their second innings, by eight wickets and 2 runs. The catch that disposed of Truscott passed into the hands of tho third man before being finally held, viz., Douglas, Major Hume, and Dr. Gilmer. The match Rivals v. Y.M.C.A. was a very interesting one and provided' a close finish. The Rivals team hod all tho worst of the luck. The Rev. E. O. Blamires was dropped twice, once when he was 30, and again at 35. Y.M.C.A. won by threo wickets and three runs. POINTS GAINED. Union 4 Vivian 0 Artillery 4 Oriental 0 ■Y.M.C.A 4 Rivals 0 HONOURS BOARD. Batting.—Taylor (out), 43; Davis, 42; Rev. E. O.
