The attempt, however; was frustrated, and the police arrested a man named Powys, described as a financier, and Burke, a music-hall artist, find charged them with the forgeryj of Which they have now, been found guilty. Burke-has been sentenced to tesveh years' imprisonment and Powys to six ytars". , ■ '*■ ■ Hundreds of opened letters were found in the prisoners' rooihj many" being addressed to the colonies. Lord Roberts', in his evidence, said the forgery of his signature was an admirable imitation.
