Society this- afternoon. ■ An eager crowd near the winning-post formed a harrow lane for the' riders. Mr. George Ward (president of the. society), ' who was in the front line, dropped a pen- ; cil, and stooped to pick it up, but before - he recovered himself a rider came along. at .'probably twenty-five miles an; hour,. and the pedal of his machine struck Mr., Ward on the side of the head.
