' A someiV&iitCSsyious accident happened ot tlio Petono Woollen Mills at noon yesterday, resulting in tv;o employees—Wal- '. tcr Elder (foreman of the hosiery department) ami Alfred Walker (hosiery pressor) fceing. scalded by steam.' Both men were engaged in. examining ■'the steam hosiery' press', and when in a crouching position the cast-iron top of the press broke and a volume of steam belched out, severely scalding both men. ' ' Dr. Harding was summoned, and the sufferers were conveyed to tho Wellington ! Hospital, where it.was found that Walker, ivas badly scalded oil'-the body and ..face; . and Elder scalded on the arms and abdomen. The top part of the press (which is very heavy) was carried', several-yards "-On an examination of tho scene of the accident it was discovered _ that, the top of the press had a flaw in it. i Both men are residents of Petqne. Elder is a married man, and .Walker, is unmarried. ' ■
