THE SAILORS' REST.

A special meeting of the contributors to the upkeep of the Sailors' Best was heh yesterday afternoon. Mr. A. D. Bayfield was in the chair. Mr. C. W. Jones moved that as the utility of the Rest had ceased to exist, the affairs of the institution bo wound up. Mr. Jones pointed out that in tlio beginning the Rest was set up for the benefit of sailors, but that it bad degenerated into an ante-room, where the wharf labourers made, a habit of gaining. Thus its usefulness liad now ceased. The chairman endorsed Mr. Jones's remarks, and added that the winding up of the institution would be no hardship to the sailors, 'as it was not used by them. The motion was carried unanimously, and the present committee was set up to- wind up affairs, and dispose of surplus funds.. The institution will accordingly cease on December 31.
