MASTERTON NOTES.
(From Our Special Correspondent.! Masterton, December 8. Much interest has been aroused" in respect to the local Territorial incident. Those Territorials who wont off duty at last Friday's parade have been summoned to an "orderly room" for Friday, evening next. In view of the-fact that considerable dissatisfaction has existed in local Territorial ranks for some time past, application has been made to the actingadjutant .for permission for the press to bo represented at the inquiry. Rain fell at the Upper Plain on seventeen days during the month of November. The total Tainfall for the month was 4.73 inches. The total registration for the last eleven months has been 47.2 inches. The average for this period during the past eight years has bsen 40.51) inches. A large quantity of hay in this district is ready for cutting. It is feared, however, tliat owing to the excessive moisture many of the hay paddocks will be ruined. Several : settlers are considering the advisability of converting tho grass into ensilage, which is an excellent winter •fodder for stock. ' . A considerable area of land in the waiTarapa is being put inuler maize this year. Maize has come into' great favour with local dairy-farmers "as a summer food for °°Boring operations at the Mangaone oilfield are proceeding apace. The drill encountered a good deal of obstruction in the early stages, but is now on easy ground. It is anticipated that a depth of 1000 ft. will be l-eached within the next fortnight. Tho monthly meeting of the W.C.T.U. was held in Knox Church .this afternoon, when the annual election of officers took place, and ordinary business was tran-The'bi-monthly meeting nf tho Wairarapa Hosnital and Charitable Aid Board is to bo held to-moraiw, when an application. for the provision of a hospital at Eketahuna will be dealt with.
