Mr. and Mrs. Tompeitt and family, who have been on a tour of Australia lor the past two months, returned to Otaki on Saturday, after a very. pleasant trip. Mr. E. Ransfield, of Manakau, has purchased Mrs. Cutler's homestead property, and is now negotiating for further township sections. Despite the unfavourable weather, there has been practically no fall in. the supply of milk at the various factories. CARTERTON. • On Friday Messrs. Dalpety and Co. railed away twenty-five two-tooth Eomney rams to the order of a Hawke'e Bay client. The rams were particularly well grown, and were selected from the flock of Messrs. Gray Brothers, of Taratahi. At a recent Maori gathering in Carterton, Mr. Purakau Jlaika announced that it was the intention of thv Natives to build a large town hall and Maori carved houso in the vicinity of Pembroke Street, Carterton, both of which would be available for public functions. Mr. Purakau stated that the carved house would p'roride an undoubted attraction to tourists from distant parts. On Friday, Mr. Colin Campbell, of Clareville, sent away four trucks of very fine lambs, and a truck of fat sheep. In the bowling fixtures next Thursday, Carterton has a bye. Masterton plays Martinborough, at Martinborough, and Greytown plays Featherston, at Greytown. Dr. E. M. Gunn was knocked oft' his motor-cycle on Friday through a motorcar dashing into Mm. Fortunately neither machine nor rider were hurt. FEILDING. The following 6chools have entered in the school gardens competition promoted by the Feilding A. and P. Association , .— Cheltenham, Mount View (Marton), Foxton, Enahine, Lytton Street (Feilding), Ashhurst, Umutoi, and Eangiwahia. The gardens will be judged during the last week before the Christmas holidays. • Mr. H. F. Worsfold has presented the Feilding District High School with a silver challenge cup for competition amongst the swimmers. Mr. Worsfold has laid down no conditions, his only object being to encourage swimming amongst boys.. . . SHANNON. On the bowling green last Wednesday ■the first round of the champion singles took place, the results being as follow:— J. Eoach (7) v. H. Knowles (20); G. N. Stephenson (18) v. T. Lind (9); J. Mitchell (15) t. W. E. Gunning (9); Messrs. C. Bromley and B. B. Stephenson won by default. The eeason has so far been a bad one for flaxmillers and flaxmill employees. The weather has, of course, besn very unseasonable, and flax workers have lost a great deal of time. Local business people complain of the scarcity o( money and trade, but the building trade is brisk, and there is plenty of work if the weather would permit. . ' •
