AN OPEN CHALLENGE FROM THE TRIUMPH. Just recently in Christchurch tho nir has been thick with motor-cycle challenges and oountor-challongos, allegations oi bluff, excuses, and explanations. Tho time has come to show where tho Triumph Btands in this mattor, nnd to (lilt an cud to an unprofitable controversy. The trouble started with Mr. Q. li. Brown's open challenge to any miiko of motorcycle, irrespective of h.p., to a hill-climb-ing test on. Paokakariltl or Sumner Hill. That challengo etill goea boßuiuu;, Then a firm of motor-oyclo ngenU issued a oounter-ohallonijo to pit ono of th<\lr machinos against o tourist trophy Triumph on a speed test from Chrktoluu'oh to Kaikoura and batik, 'Dint countor-ohulleiise was promptly accepted, but the public aro now being treated to o number of explanations as to why tho content line been declined by thoso who silKlfostetl it, Wo are, however, delighted with tho suggestion given in that couutot'-clinlletigo that there should bo a contest "of eomo use to prospective buyer*- a challenge oi reliability." Had wo thought of it we should have issuod such n chdlloiiffo long ago. Such a test (should klvo the general public an qxcellont oriiorion as to tho comparative merits of various makes of motor-cycles. Wo haston, thoroforo to avail ourselves of tho vory valuable suggestion given by our good friends of the J. A. Philp Motor Company, and on behalf of the Trumph Motor Company, Ltd., Coventry, wo hereby issue a £10 challenge to all makes of motor-cycle, 31 h.p. or under, for a contest, Christchurch to Kaikoura, via Cheviot, returning' to Christchurch via Wniau, against time.. No restrictions to be mada as to riders or equipment by oitbor side. The Kaikoura run is not our selection. It is the course chosen by our competitors, but we ngreo that it is a good course for a tost of reliability. Wo havo issued a sporting challenge, without reservations or restrictions, and as evidence ofi our desiro to mako tho test a purely sporting concern, wo undertake to handover any money wo may win to the Christchtirch Beautifying Association. Are there any acceptances for this challenge? Adams, Ltd., New Zralnnd agents for Triumph motor-cycles. Branches Wanwanut and Palmorstoii North i find agents Tourist Motor Co., Hafltioga.—Advt.
