OFFICER'S POSITION. (By Telcjxaph.-SpeckJ Correspondent.) Masterton, December 1. Lieutenant Puxdy, of the Permanenß Territorial SWF, explains that the young officer whose promotion was- said to have had something to do with last Friday's "incident" at the .Masterton Drill Hall is only n second lieutenant. His name appeared on the district orders. forjromotian to first lieutenant in error. Sβ ie not required to pass am.examination for ft second lieutenancy. Lieutenant Purdy also states that social standing is not regarded in. the matter of promotion. An inquiry is to be held into the affair and the local papers are insisting thai this should be open to the press.
