HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.

Gilmour, of Petone, who returned last Thursday from an eight- months' trip to Great Britain, Ireland, and the Continent, is. fin enthusiastic bowler, and during his travels had, many opportunities of trying his still on the. greens in the Old Land. ' The lower Hutt Roman Catholic Scho'ol will celebrate their "breaking up" this year by holding a concert' in the, King George Theatre. The programme will be supplied by the scholars, who are at present engaged in rehearsals. For some time past farmers of Taita have been annoyed by dogs worrying shepp, and in some cases the losses have been reported to be heavy. The other day, however, a farmer cayght three dogs in the act, and promptly shot them. The owner of tho dogs promised to pay damages, and the matter will not be : proceeds! with further. Mr. Eobert Hazelwood, a storekeeper of Lower Hutt, met with a painful $n<l perhaps serious accident last week-end. 1 -' He was driving a noil in some wood, when it sprang back and struck him in the eye, inflicting a nasty wound. ' Mr. Pearson, locomotive engineer at the Petone Railway Workshops, has presetted (on behalf of the officers and leading hands) a silver cup, for competition amongst the various Departmental cricket teams. :j The benefit which is to be tendered .to Mr. Symes (accidentally shot some time ago) promises to be a success. The committee have disposed of a large number of tickets. The annual meeting of the Petone Ambulance Committee will be held in the Municipal Buildings next Wednesday night. The business • will be to receive the report and balance-sheet, and to elect three representatives of the public to tho committee.
