(Bγ Telegraph.—Press Association.) . ■ Auckland, December 1, A deputation from the Auckland "Bak* ers' and Pastrycooks' Union waited on the Prime Minister yesterday, to place before him certain, grievances in connection with night-shift work. It was stated that Auckland is the only centre where'nightshift conditions prevail as they obtained prior to the award abolishing those, conditions. Since then an order had been issued through the Clerk of Awarde reintroducing the objectionable night-shift conditions without any, further hearing. It was argued that when in' operation masters found the day-ehift system quite satisfactory, but a email eection had obtained the reversal. Double time had been stipulated for and agreed to for night work, but the Court now ordered a payment of only 7s. 6d. a week extra, yet master bakers had put up the.sellinc price of the loaf by a halfpenny in order to pay double rates for night work. "It seems to me the public have to pay all the time, and. on any exouse," remarked Mr. Massey.
