CRICKET. N.S. WALES TEACHERS' TEAM. At a. meeting of the- Wellington Education Institute held last evening a letter was received from Mr. F. A. Hompleman regarding .the forthcoming visit of the New South. Wales Teachers' cricket team. Tho team is to arrive in Wellington' on Wednesday, December 18, to oominenc© a holiday tour of the North Island. During their stay in this city arrangements are being made for them to play a one-day cricket match on tho - Thursday against looal teachers, and for a two-days' game against the Wellington Association representative team. .Local teachers will also meet them at bowls and probably tennis. The visiting party consists of 21 men and six ladies, and has been officially recognised'by the New South Wales Public Schools' Amateur Athletic Association. Mr. Hempleinan has. charge of the New Zealand arrangements. BOXINQ. RITCHIE DEFEATS WOLGAST. By Teloiraiih—Preas Association—Oonyrlght Now York,.November 28. Puitchie has defeated Wolgast in a fight at Daly City, California, thus winning the light-weight ohampionship. The contest was witnessed by a tremendous crowd. Sixteen out of twenty rounds were fought, and Wolgast steadily lost throughout, though tho early rounds were very even. , The men fought like tigers throughout, and bled freely from faco blows, Wolgast's teeth suffering. In the sixteenth round Wolgast hit low and the referee awarded the fight to Ritchie on a foul. Thie decision was generally satisfactory. ATTELL THROWS UP THE SPONGE. St. Louis, November 28. The opening matches of the second annual tournament of the Civil Service are set down for decision at 8 p.m. on Monday, December 2, at the Nowtown Club's courts, off Constable Street.
