At a later stago Judge Backhouse referred to tho matter, and repeated a Jtark Twain story. Tho American humorist on 0110 occasion remarked that Adam had been sadly neglected. Statues had been crected to all sorts of men, and none had>been crected to liim, who surely was deserving, of one. Tlio matter was discus?cd, and one man went so.far as to subscribe 5000 dollars for the purppse. Then somoonb remembered'that no 0110 knew what Adam was liko, and tho whole matter was suddenly dropped. And tho world is still without a statue of Adam,
