VETERLNAKY EXAMINATION,

At a . meeting of the ClydesdoJe Horse Society of New Zealand in. June last the following recommendation nuiile by Mr. l/ruest Short was approved"That it be ,a recommendation to entrants that any stallion _or mare up to 6 years old may be provisionally examined by a Government veterinary surgeon, and i£ pronounced free from hereditary unsoundness the_entry in the Stud Book would have tile association's stamp affixed." Mr. C. J.- Keakes,- director of the live .stock' and; meat - division of the Agricultural Department, was communicated,with as to charges for this work, and his reply was as follows:—"With reference to the proposal to examine for hereditary unsoundness all horses and mares intended to bq'enterod in tho Clydesdale Stud Book,provided the owners wish to submit them to examination, the following are-the conditions under which such examination will be carried out by Government veterinary officers appointed for tho purpose: One guinea per visit to any one farm or place for the purpose of examining horses which are the property of the owner or occupier of that farm, provided that if on visiting a farm or place for this purpose horses belonging to_ any other person than the owner of the farm or placo are also examined, eatll individual owner shall pay a fee of one guinea. If , more than five horses to one owner are examined on the occasion of any visit to any farm or place, a further fee of ss. for each additional animal to be. paid. -"Aay- charges for locomotion (apart from railway travelling) incurred by the examining officers to be added to the above fees,. the owner of the farm or placo visited to by responsible.' "No certificate to be. granted in respect of individual animals.- The examining officers to notify the secretary of the .Clydesdale Society in writing of all animals examined, together with the result of such examination. In the cas3 of rejected animals owners, to be informed of >the cause of ■ rejection. If a certificate is required in-respect of any horse a fee of . one guinea to-be paid by the owner for each certificate. ..... . I would'suggest that, only animals three years old and upwards be examined."
