The imports of tho Commonwealth for 'October 1 aro a record, and aro *£2,398,000 above those of the previous October. On the other hand the exports have decreased by .£884,000. The imports for the ten months increased by £010,138,715 over tho corresponding period of last year. RAILWAY COLLISION. St, Petersburg, November 28. A Russian military train, carrying reservists, collided with a workmen's' train) at Horso, Manchuria. Eleven persons were killed and thirty-two severely injured. AN ARMED THIEF IN A BANK. Adelaide, November 20. A man entered the Gouger Street branch of the Commercial Bank at closing time, and after asking for change of a coin, closed the door and confronted the manager, Mr. Benda, who was alono, with a revolver. Mr. Benda ducked behind the counter, and seized the oflico revolver, with which he covered the intruder, who bolted and escaped. , EDUCATIONISTS' TOUR. > London, November 28. The condition of Sir Edward Henry, Commissioner of Police, who was shot by a chauffeur, is improving. The chauffeur, who had recently been refused a license, was brought, before the Pclice Court, charged with attempted murder, and remanded. DEATH SENTENCE COMMUTED. Sydney, November 29. The death sentence on the young man Theogose, for tho murder of Hoey, a hawker, on July 22 last, at Grafton, has been commuted. ' HEIGHT OF BUILDINGS. Sydney, November 29 In the Legislative Assembly the Height of Buildings .Bill has been read a third time. Tho Bill enacts that the City Council has control over applications for buildings with a height • not exceeding 100 feet, but over that height the Fire Brigade Commissioners must report to the Chief Secretary. MUNICIPALITY AND FISH TRADIS. Sydney, November 29. In the Legislative Assembly, the Sydney Corporation Amendment Bill, allowing the council to enter the fish trade, was ruled out of order, because it amended the Real Property Act and the Trustee Act, though the order of leave did not cover this. MOUNT LYELL DISASTER. Hobart, November 29.
