AN OPEN CHALLENGE FROM THE ', TRIUMPH. Just recently in Christchurch the aifc has been thick with motor-cycle challenges arid oounter-challenges, allegations • of bluff, excuses, and explanations. The time has come to show .where the Triumph stands in this matter, and to put an end to an unprofitable controversy. The trouble stavted with Mr. G. B. Brown's; open challengo to any make of motorcycle, irrespective of h.p., to a hill-climb-ing test 'on Paekakariki or Sumner Hill< That challenge still goes begging. Then a firm of inotor-cycle agents issued a oounter-challengo to pit ono of their machines against a tourist trophy -Triumph on a speed test from Christchurch to Kaikoura and back. That counter-challenge was promptly accepted, but the public ara now being treated to a number of explanations as to why the contest has been declined by those who suggested it. We are, however, delighted with the suggestion given in that counter-challenge that there should be a contest "of some use to prospective buyers—a challenge, of reliability." Had wo thought of it we should have issued such a challenge long ago. Such a test should give the genoral public an excellent criterion as to tho comparative merits of various makes of motor-cycles. We hasten, there: fore to avail ourselves of the very valuable suggestion givon by our good friends of tho J. A. Philp Motor Company, and on behalf of the Trumph Motor Company, Ltd.. Coventry, we hereby issue a .£lO challenge to all make 3of motor-cycle. Si h.p. or under, for a contest, Christchureli to Kaikoura, via Choviot, returning to Christchurch via Waiau, against time. No restrictions to be made as to riders or equipment by either side. The Ivaikonra run is not our selection. It is the course chosen by .our com. petitors, but wo agree that it is a good course for a test of reliability. We have issued a sporting challenge, without reservations or restrictions, and as ; evidence of our desire to make, the test q purely sporting concern, wo undertake to hand over any money we may win to the Christchurch Beautifying Association* Are there any acceptances for this chal. iengo?
