FEILDING NEWS

Most of the farmers in the Feilding district have finished shearing their rams and dry ewes, but they have made no further progress in gathering up "the golden fleece" owing to the wet weather. The clip, so far as can be judged, is fairly heavy, and of good quality. At the Manawatu County Council s meeting yesterday, a suggestion was made by the chairman (Mr. J. G. Wilson) that a set of model by-laws should be framed and approved by legislative sanction, and power given for councils to adopt the whole instead of the present process having to be followed. Growers of fat lambs anticipate that the lambs will be a littto late t in "getting the bloom on thom" this season owing to the wet weather. The warm rains of the past few weeks have caused a good growth of rich grass, however, and there will bo no ultimate loss. Eighteen boys chosen from tho Feildinec Marton, Tnihape, and Wnnganui High Schools agricultural classes aro to go into camp at "Almailale" (Mr. E. Short's 6tud farm at Cheltenham), on Tuesday noxt. They will be in charge of Messrs. Grant and "0. A. Banner (agricultural instructor for the Wangonui ■ Education Board), and will remain in camp for a week. As on the previous occasion the lads will bo asked to do a week's hard practical work, and will no doubt enjoy it.
