CIVIC AFFAIRS.

MEETING OF CITY COUNCIL. The fortnightly meeting of the City Council was held last night. There were present: The Mayor (Mr. D, M'Laren) and Councillors B. Fletcher, G. ShirtJ. E. Fitzgerald, A. H. Hindmarsh, R. A: Cameron, J.' Fuller, E. Tregear, J. Gotlber, A. R-. Atkinson,' J. Trevor G. Frost, F. Cohen, J. Smith, and L. M'Kenziel leave of absence was granted to Councillor W. H. P. Barber. In - accordance with the recommendation of the Finance Committee, it was decided: "That the council subsidise the Tramways, jupp's, arid City Bands for municipal baud performances for the year 1912-13, conditionally that if the. bands do not fully complete all their engagements that the subsidy be not paid to them; and also that the Waterside "Workers' Brass Band be informed that when they reach, a g«>od standard, their application for inclusion in the schedule will receive favourable consideration." An amendment to include the Waterside Workers' Band in the;schedule was lost on the vote of the; Jf ay or. ■ It was decided: "That in cases where the use: of water for other than domestic purposes is.such that in the opinion of tlie City ' Engineer the installation of a water-meter -is not - warranted, the. City Engineer be authorised to arrange for the supply, at fee to be fixed." CHARGES ON CITY' FIELDS. DAYS STIPULATED. ' The City Council last night adopted the following recommendation of the Reserves Committee:—"That the Wellington Cricket Association be granted permission to charge for admission to the • Basin Reserve on the following occasions:— December 7 and 14, cup matches, 6(1. per head; December 20 and 21, New South Wales teachers' matc.li, Is. per head; December. 26, 27, and 28, South Melbourne match, Is. per head, the council collecting 10 per cent, of the gross takings, in lieu of 5 per' cent, formerly collected, .without prejudice to the right of the committee to reopen the question of the percentage collected later on." 1 The by-law -regulating the chaTges to be made for admission to reserves to witness games was passed with an amendment to the.effect that all children under the ages of 15 years be admitted free.
