Masterton, November 27„ The rainfall last night was the hoariest experienced for some months, no- less than two inches being recorded. rivers and streams in the district' are in a high state of ilood. At a meeting of the Wairarapa Swimming Club last evening, tho programme, for tho annual swimming carnival onAnniversary Day was drawn up. It was decided to officially open the season on Thursday next, when two • swimminj • events will be got off. A sum of .£32 has been collected in Mas. terton in aid of Dr. Barnardo's Homes, and it is expected-that this amoiint wilt be considerably increased before tho collectors have completed their task. A largo number of signatures have been obtained to a petition praying th.it the siding at the Waingawa meat works should be constituted a flag, station.. The Opaki Rifle Club will hold its first field-day of ihe season on Saturday next.. The afternoon train from Wellington was over an. hour late in its arrival in Masterton' yesterday.
