ATHLETIC SPORTS.

OLYMPIC COUNCIL. THE ANNUAL MEETING HELD. The annual meeting of the Olympic Council for New Zealand was held last night. Mr. A. Marryatt presided, and there were also present: Messrs. G. S. Hill, F. Wilton, A. Davits, A. D. Bayfield, B. It. Keesing, and B. A. Guise (hon. secretary). The report and balance-sheet (particulars of which have already been published) were adopted. : The New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association advised that Messrs,. B. E. Keesing and It. St. J. Beere had been appointed delegates. G. N. Hill' wrote, stating that he was considerably out of pocket over the trip to Stockholm.—lt was decided that the matter be held over until the manager's report was received. The chairman reported that he had met Dr. Collins, of the Sports Protection League Executive, in regard to the question of the league offering assistance to the council. Dr. Collins was personally in favour of a British Empire team, and of sending New Zealand representatives Home in time to be acclimatised, and to enable them to ,do their best. He also favoured more attention being given to the finer points of training, and considered that an eye should be kept on th 3 schools and colleges. After several members had spoken in different strains on the subject, it was agreed (on the motion of Mr. Hill) that the representative for Australia on the International Olympic Committee should be asked to furnish the council with details of the proposed- "British Empire" scheme, and also be asked to furnish the views of the various councils on the subject. Mr. Keesing moved, and it was resolved that thanks be tendered the Sports Protection League for the interest taken in the movement, and that a committee be appointed to wait on them, and discuss the question. The committee is to consist of the chairman, and Messrs. Hill, Keesing, and Bayfield. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Chairman, Mr. A. Marryatt; hon. secretary-treasurer, Mr. B. R. Guise; non. auditor, Mr. C. D. Morpeth.
