BANK OF N.Z. DIRECTORATE.

MR. HAROLD BEAUCHAMP REAPPOINTED. Mr. Harold Beauchamp has been appointed a director of the Bank of New Zealand, vice Mr. J. B. Reid, who resigned. The appointment has been approved by his Excellency the Governor. . The chairman of directors of the Bank of New Zealand, Mr. Martin Kennedy, intends to pay a visit to England shortly. Ho will leavo Wellington on December 13, and will be away for six or seven months. It is expected that Mr. Beauchamp will l>e appointed acting-chairman for the unexpired balance of Mr. Kennedy's term, which expires in March next. This appointment, however, rests with the directors. Mr. Reid was appointed for two years, and his term would have expired by effluxion of timo on March 31 next. Mr. Beauchamp has been appointed for the unexpired balance of the term. Mr. Beauchamp left the directorate of tho Bank of Now Zealand in March last, under circumstances which most people will remember. When his retirement was officially announced, Mr. Beauchamp was absent in England. It was stated that he had resigned for reasons of health. When Mr. Beauchamp returned to tho Dominion he put a somewhat different complexion on the matter, as will appiar from the following statement which ho made on May 9, 1912—"My reason for intimating to the Government my desire to bo relieved of the position of chairman of tho bank after the expiration of my last term —namely, on March 31, 1912—was 6olely on account of my health. I wrote to the Minister for Finance (Sir Joseph Ward at that time) to that effect on February 6 last. Prior, however, to receipt of my letter by at least a week, Cabinet resolved not to reappoint me. This was no doubt due to the attitude which I had always assumed as chairman of the bank. In other words, I would not at any time let my own opinions be subservient to political exigencies."

Mr. Beauchamp, was chairman of directors for five years prior to his retirement. He was acting-chairman' for a year before that. ■
