LYSOL & SUICIDE.
REMARK BY AUCKLAND CORONER. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent,) Auckland, November 26. "If people only knew the awful suffering which attaches to the taking of lysol they would .never take it for the purpose of committing suicide. 1 * Such wis a casual remark made by the city coroner (Mr. Thos. Gresham) at, the close .of yesterday's proceedings at the Coroner's Court. The subject of reference was the number of cases in which lysol had bWn used of late, either in regard to suicides or attempted suicides. The previous day a middle-aged man had been taken to tho hospital suffering from lysol ipoisoning, and yesterday a woman, aged about SO, was charged with having attempted to commit suicide by talcing the same flery lotion. Still another lysol tragedy occurred in the early hours of this morning at Grey Lymi. : Sub-Inspector Hendry remarked, when seen by a "Star" representative, that one of the suicidal wares which, like many other phenomena qame in cycles, had bcoii passing' over Auckland, and strangely enough several lysol ca.«es had occurred. He confirmed the remarks of tho coroner with regard to the agony attaching to the usa of this form of poison.. and thought that people of suicidal tendencies .should realise tho suffering involved in Hint method of bringing about their quietus. It is sincerely to be hoped that taa present wave has expended itself-
