ART IN POTTERY.

SOME NOTABLE EXAMPLES. Some exquisite examples of what pottery and painting when combined can produce are now on view at Messrs. Edward Anderson's establishment in Willis Street. They have lately acquired a number of remarkably beautiful pieces of china, -which won honours at tho'Turin exhibition, and they are undoubtedly among the best that have ever been shown in. Now Zealand. Best of all is a tall vase, superbly modelled, on which Mr. J. Hancock has painted a wonderful pastoral, entitled "Springtime." The pigments are delicate, as tho theme requires, and tho composition is good enough to mako all tho rest w ; orth while. The base of the stand is of green, on which are gilded beautiful scrolls. of shining gold, and tho lid is likewise a thing of of similai design. This pretty bauble is worth 230 guineas. There aro half a score or thereabouts of samples of the very finest that tho potter and painter can produce on show at Messrs. Anderson'? store. Severalverr fine examples of figure painting—also on vases—by George White,_ are entitled "Autumnal Frolic," "Spring Frolic/' "Morn," and "Spirit of Morning.' Thcee trinkets stand ail of them loss than two feet high, and they vary in prim? above and below one hundred guineas. David Dewsbury has painted somo glorious orchids on two vases, and on. a. dessert soi'vico. "Dolce Far Niente," by Titterson, is another beautiful picturs on a splendid ground, ~ All the above-mentioned pieces are by Messrs. Doulton, but there aro also other famous makers of china represented. Of Royal Worcester, there are some of tho daintiest samples; different colours, different models, and different effects, less gorgeous, perhaps, but equally charming. Crown Derby, of novelette fame, is typified in characteristic models and patterns. Necessarily all the goods specially mentioned aro costly, but there aro small pieces of medium price, and jjems at so small a price a3 half a sovereign.
