The maids cluster round hor, and it is this tightened group which the ruHians see as tuey'rush into • her apartment. Their onslaught is check- . ed, however, for a moment by Alice. A citizeness goads the leaders on, and sho is captured and hurried olf to the guillotine. Santeuii, an officer in the army, intervenes, and succeeds in rescuing her, aud conducting her to liberty. Time passes, o and Santeuii is depicted as a general of > the B-epublican army, stationed on the* frontiers defending France. During a skirmish with the enemy, the officer nest in command to the general is wounded. The officer is taken to a farm house near by, and then confesses to the famer'a wife that she is a woman. She is, in fact, none other than Ali6e, who, disguised as- a man, has, unknown to' him,lollowed Santeuii in his perilous enterprise. Alice pledges the woman, to . secrecy, and then, she delivers her dis- - patch to Santeuii. He is ignorant 01 ner identity, although ho nourishes a passion for the woman he saw once only, limiting events' follow, and one incident depicts Santeuii mortally wounded by a' «hot from the enemy. .Prior to his death, however, he onco again meets Alice, who changes from her uniform into her proper dress. This picture, as well as the others Shown at -this theatre, are perfectly projected. "Saved from Court-Martini is the title of another interesting dramatic study.
