NEW POST OFFICE.
OFFICIAL OPENING TO-DAY, The now General Post Office will hi formally opened to-day. The proceedings are to commence at it p.m. lbs Mayur (Air. JD.' ii'i-aren) will preside, and the Hon. B. H. Uhodes (Postmaster-Generai) will perform .the opening ceremony. UUltr Ministers present will Ui tn« Hon. James Alton, tiio Hon. W. H. ilerries, tlie Hon, A. L. Herdman (member for the district), the Hon. \Y. Eraser, and the Hon. H. I). JtJell. Tlie Hon. iYAI. H. Usher is detained by official business in Christehurcli, and will be unable to attend. The speeches will bo delivered from a platlorm which has been erected in trout of the building. Two verses of "God Save the King" will be sung by a choir, which is to be in attendance, and the Mayor will then introduce Mr. Bhodes and other members of the Ministry. 'Speeches will be delivered by Messrs. Modes, Herdman, and ' Frastr. At the - conclusion of the speeches the contractor will hand Mr. lthodes a .key. Before the PostmasterGeneral opens the door the choir will sing "Glory and Love to the Men of Old" as a tribute to the men who have built up the Department in time gone by. The building having been formally opened, the Postmaster-General will invito the guests of the day to sign - the visitors' books in the accountant's long room upstairs. The general public will be given an opportunity of inspecting the building. Kefreshm'ents will be provided, and at intervals "Comrades in Arms" and other choruses will be sung by the choir. _ Old ajo (j«hsioners and widows who are iu receipt of pensions should note that the registrar of old age and widows' pensions will for tlie time being retain his quarters in the old Colonial Bank building on lambton Quay, which has been used for 6ome time past as a money order office, in connection with the post office. There will be no alteration in th 6 place for the payment of pensions until further notice. In order to avoid confusion those who received an invitation to the ceremony in connection with the opening of the new Post Office tuilding to-day are requested to present the invitation card at the steps leading to the' platform at tho GreyFeatherston Streets entrance. .
