CITY FIRE.
OUTBREAK IN CUBA STREET, At a quarter to five yesterday morning the City. Fire Brigade was called to Ralfe and Anson's grocery shop, 188 Cuba Street. ■ A fire had broken out iu a storeroom at the back of the shop, and before the flames were extinguished the contents of this department were badly damaged. The rest of the shop suffered through heat and smote. . The. dental parlours of Mr. Thomas E. IC. Burgess, which adjoin the shop, escaped damage, except a little from smoke. Ralfo and Avison's stock was insured for ,£I2OO, and their plant nnd fittings for .£2OO. Burgess's stock was covered by a policy of .£2OO. It is suspected that rats caused the fire. A case of matches, which had been opened, was found near the place where the outbreak started. HOUSE DESTROYED AT THE HUTT. At 1.30 a.m. on Saturday moaning, a-six-roomed dwelling in Moa Street, Te Nomi, Lower Hutt, was totally destroyed by fire. It is believed that the firo was caused by the explosion of a kerosene lamp which had been kept burning all night ina sick room. The occupants escaped with difficulty. The dwelling, which was owned and occupicd by -Mr. P. W. Curtis, was insured, together with the contents, but details of the insurances, are not yet available.
