MASTERTON NOTES.

(Prom Oar Special Correspondent.) Masterton, November 22. A Native named To Awtotu.Te Huki was fined and costs in the Magistrate s Court this morning for neglecting to take the necessary steps to destroy thorabbits on his property at Kaiwhata. The case had been postponed for several sittings of the Court, as there was a dispute as to liability, the land having been leased. The magistrate eventually decided, that To Hutti, as the owner, was liable. The Native. Appellate Court has given judgment in a long-drawn-out case in which the ownership of land at Wlareawa was involved. It appears that in 18G0 two Natives acquired a partnership in a block of land.' One of those Natives died, and the relatives of the other have since claimed, all' interest in the land. Special legislation was passed to enable the case to be investigated, and the Appellate Court hfus nov; decided that the descendants of both of the original owners are entitled to an interest in the block. A considerable sum of . money which has been'vested with the Public Trustee for some time will now be distributed. The first summer day of the month, was experienced to-day. Robinson, a member of the Masterton Trust Lands Trustees/ addressed a public meeting in the Town Hall tonight, at which he criticised the policy of the trust and the attitude of the Labour party, and suggested the resignation of the trustees so that an appeal could be submitted to tlie electors on the views ho had outlined. Between two and three hundred persons were present. The following resolution was: declared ..carried : "That this meeting is of opinion that.'all trustees should resign as soon as the rolls are closed, so as to have the question of trust reform settled at the earliest possible moment by- a general election on clear-cut lines."
